McAfee extends hack protection to Linux servers PDF  | Print |
Wednesday, 15 June 2005

Security vendor McAfee, Inc., has unveiled its McAfee Entercept support for Linux. The McAfee Entercept server agent now supports Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3, in addition to existing platform support for Windows and Solaris.

The introduction of protection for Linux is part of McAfee's strategy to provide comprehensive and proactive, multi-platform security solutions including Linux. On June 7, the company announced enhancements to McAfee LinuxShield, offering customers comprehensive virus protection for their Linux systems.

According to McAfee, as a widely adopted alternative to other common operating systems among IT professionals, the Linux platform has been broadly deployed for internal as well as web-facing applications, and runs a variety of critical business applications, including accounting, databases and file/print servers. Due to its rapid adoption, there are a number of known exploits targeted at Linux-based applications, which can cause system-wide outages.

"McAfee customers demand comprehensive and uniform protection for their computing infrastructure and the introduction of McAfee Entercept for Linux exemplifies our commitment to providing proven multi-platform solutions that exceed our customers security needs," said Allan Bell, Asia Pacific marketing director, McAfee, Inc.

McAfee Entercept for Linux will be available through McAfee resellers from June 17, 2005. Existing McAfee customers can obtain the new software under the terms and conditions of their maintenance agreement.
