Ever wished you could have a portable computerised street map that displayed the streets in fantastic 3D, and even spoke to you and told you which direction to go? Of course many cars have this function now, but what about a portable device that you could use when walking, or transfer into any car you choose, even if you travelled by taxi?
Well – it's no longer science fiction – the fully portable GPS – with every road in Australia – is finally here! It's called the Navman PiN (Personal Interactive Navigation) system. Better still, it's a fully functional Windows Pocket PC, letting you keep all your contacts, emails, run software programs, listen to mp3 music and much more.
It's equivalent to other Pocket PC only units from other vendors costing $1000 or more (without GPS capability), and it has a with 3.5" colour LCD display, mp3 player, voice recording, SD and MMC expansion, and rechargeable lithium ion battery.
Of course the standout feature is the GPS mapping software which is better than virtually any factory installed car-GPS solution. The mapping software offers 2D and full 3D colour map views, enhanced street level detail, automatic 'Back on track' re-routing, the ability to select an area to avoid, the ability to quickly find specific points of interest, such as restaurants, service stations, chemists, police stations, park areas and more.
Another feature of interest to consumers is the ability to have fixed speed cameras represented with a unique graphical icon on the screen. The system to enter in addresses is easy to use and having a totally portable computerised map is oh-so convenient.
We never want to go back to a paper map again! Maps are updated once a year at $169, which is an update for all of Australia on CD via retailers. The PiN Pocket PC retails for $1049 RRP and comes preloaded with a 128mb MMC expansion card which contains the maps for all of Australia, meaning you don't need to buy anything else to immediately get started! |
